Food Ministry

First Presbyterian Church of Waskom, Texas in association with the East Texas Food Bank (Linda Vass, Mobile Pantry Coordinator) dispenses monthly food allotments to feed all who are in need in the Ark-La-Tex region. The Food Bank operates on the first Tuesday of every month from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Applicants file the appropriate paperwork and provide their contact information in order to receive their food items.

Brookshire’s Spring Market of Waskom, TX (Store Director Tommy Morris) is holding a ‘Spirit of Christmas’ Food Drive, helping us feed the needy throughout the ArkLaTex!

Pastor Jim Brackman works with Imperial Super Regional Distributor of Bossier City, Louisiana (Supervisor Alphonso “Fonz” Carlton), who generously donates food and beverages to First Presbyterian Church every Friday to supplement supplies and to bridge available food items for the needy. Those in immediate need may contact the FPC staff to receive food items, subject to availability.

Clothing ministry

First Presbyterian Church of Waskom, Texas provides clothing to all who are in need in the Ark-La-Tex area. Doors of the Clothing Ministry open every second, third and fourth Thursday of the month. Church volunteers coordinate and administer the distribution of clothing to outfit the needy of all ages – from infants, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers to kids, adults and seniors, with a wide variety of types and sizes of available apparel and accessories, for every season of the year.

Promotions are held during the holiday season to generate funds for the church and food bank to meet the growing demands of the community.

Evangelical missions we support

Evangelical Presbyterian Church’s World Outreach (EPCWO) is the mission sending agency of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. Our principal calling is to glorify God by starting disciple-making movements among least-reached people groups, especially among Muslims.

In these hard places EPCWO generally works in one of three ways:

  • Engage 2025 – The EPC churches of a particular geographic area (a presbytery), in cooperation with WO, prayerfully adopt one or more unengaged Muslim people groups, and send a team of long-term workers to launch disciple-making movements among them.
  • International Theological Education Network (ITEN) – ITEN identifies and deploys gifted EPC teachers to assist national partners and institutions to develop disciples and disciple-makers among unreached people groups, especially Muslims.
  • Cooperative Agreements – WO partners with other compatible sending agencies (which have expertise WO lacks), to send EPC workers to make significant contributions to the goal of starting disciple-making movements among least-reached people groups.

WO currently has about 60 family units living primarily in a belt stretching from North Africa to Southeast Asia, all of whom have developed teams of financial and prayer supporters (both individuals and churches) before leaving for their fields of service.

Coaches Outreach

First Presbyterian Church actively participates in Coaches Outreach with Waskom High School. Coaches Outreach seeks to build coaches of conviction by encouraging and equipping coaches and their spouses to have Christ-like character through practical application of biblical truth.

With biblical convictions and a sense of calling, we envision coaches and their spouses around the nation leading a spiritual revival among young people. We know that God has raised up Coaches Outreach to encourage and equip coaches and spouses toward this end (Matthew 28:19-20).
